sore calves

I'm doing stairclimbing (literally! I climb the stairs from the basement to the kitchen). There are only 8 steps, but I run down and walk back up 10 times, then walk down and run up 10 times. Once a day. I'm wondering - should I be doing this daily? Or, like weights, should I give my calf muscles a rest?
Thanks.

Since your subject heading is "sore calves" it sounds like your calves are needing a rest day here and there to recover.  Later on, as you get more conditioned, you may be able to climb stairs longer and/or more often than you are currently.

In my 30's I was doing step aerobics daily....I started getting tight and sore calves.  My body was telling me something...unfortunately...I wasn't listening.  My calve muscles sustained an injury that I could have avoided.

Cross training is a good thing, allowing you to continue to exercise but avoid repetitive stress to the same muscles.  Try another activity for one or more of those days, and if you are not already, consider an active rest day.

I would also suggest thoroughly stretching your calves and Achilles after doing this.

Thank you very much. I will do other exercises and rest days. I did give it up for a couple of days, and my calves are no longer sore. Maybe I'll try to do the stair climbing every other day.

A great stretch I do  is to stand on the side of a step or curb of the street and let my heel hang off. You will really feel the calf lengthen.
