Alternate Pose for Downward Facing Dog

Good Morning Collage,
I have nerve damage in a shoulder & doing Downward Facing Dog Pose more than a couple of times triggers pain that can last up to a week!
Is there an alternate pose for downward facing dog?
Thank you,
Cathy

In classes that i've attended, they have suggested child's pose, if you are having issues with downward facing dog. Another option would be to find a dvd that focuses on standing poses. I'd love to find a good standing practice. I am susceptible to arm/neck pain and sometimes down dog is just too much for me.

that's a great idea, slinks.  or a stability ball.  my thought was to do a seated forward bend.  it won't stretch or strengthen the shoulders, but it would stretch the entire back body, which is one of the purposes of downward dog.  although child's pose fits more smoothly into sun sals than seated forward bend.  or you could do standing forward bend.

I know what you mean on the down dog being too much! I did too many last week & lost 3 days of working out! I do like these suggestions!

I saw a documentary on senior activity, they too were doing down dog on a chair seat.  Those other suggetions sound great too.

    Hi billiefan,
Thank you very much for your reply!  I'm planning on trying this suggestion! I guess part of my problem(in my head) is I don't really want to do "senior moves"! Oh well, will have to work on the head aspect!
    Thanks again,
    Cathy

No need to think of it as a senior activity.  The ball variation is done in yoga on a ball workouts. ;)

    Good Morning Vannie,
The chair poses make  me think "senior"! I just recently purchased Sara Ivanhoe's Yoga on a Ball & haven't tried it yet!
I need a shelf just for yoga DVDs! I just added a couple more to my wish list & I'm up to 44 DVDs(not a hoarder)
    Thank you Vannie,
    Cathy
