Welcome Sanra! I'd go for Powerfit if I were you, either the original 5-disc set or {Powerfit Plus}5845^. Or both.

When I first started out I bought The Firm Sculpting System 2, with the fannie lifter and the sculpting stick.  I've also done DVDs from their TransFIRMation System Multi-pack and they rock.  Anything that is from the FIRM is going to be good.

Do you have a library near you?  I would try to borrow from your local library and see what fits you best before I bought anything.  You never know, you might think step areobic is your thing and find out you love dancing DVDs better.  Or maybe your a future yogi :)

Great suggestion about the library!  Petra Kolber is great for beginners, as is {Jillian's "The Biggest Winner}5771^, {Shape Up Front}5925^/{Back}5935^" (2005) but don't think collage carries it.

I would suggest {Margaret Richard}5848^ for a beginner. She gives great form pointers and her workouts are high rep/low weights and usually floor work. Her style is "killing you softly." You could try Leslie Sansone walking DVD's. Cathe Friedrich has a couple of beginner/intermediate DVD's that are excellent. She also gives lots of form pointers. Good Luck!

I also think that anything from Leslie Sansone is good for a beginner.  Her choreography is very easy to follow.  And it is very forgiving to the joints.

Maybe Ellen Barrett for toning.  She uses light or no weight.  I usually do kettlebell to tone, and I'm not sure you'd like that.  I know Leslie has some workouts that she throws some toning in.  You might also like Pilates.  If you do a search for Pilates on Collage and then narrow it to "beginner" you might find something.  The Elements series has a {Pilates for Beginners}5525^ workout.  I own it but haven't done it yet, so I can't comment.  Denise Austin has a couple pretty good Pilates DVD's.  There is a Gaiam 5-Day Fit Pilates DVD that has a mixture of Pilates workouts.  You might find that useful for the time being.  Pilates is a great toner for lower body and especially abs.  Good luck!

I'm still in the beginner stage and I have two left feet so no dance or fancy footwork for this gal. I love Leslie's discs, the footwork is simple and I love that I can make the workout as easy or as challanging as I would like; lately I've been using one pound wrist weights to up the intensity. I have one Petra disc, {Cardio for Beginners}5647^, which has both an athletic cardio routine and a dance cardio routine, I pick the cardio and skip the dance. I highly recomend Kelly Coffey-Meyer's 30 minutes to fitness {start here}6097^, the disc has a 30 minute cardio and a 30 minute strength routine plus several pre-mixes. Good luck! :)

You can't go wrong with Leslie! 95% (or more) of my cardio is Leslie's workouts. She's great no matter what level you are. Some of her longer workouts can be pretty intense! But you can always modify up or down very easily. :)

Leslie will definitely help you lose weight as long as you're watching your calorie intake, of course. That goes for all workouts.
