Total Gym

Does anyone use a Total Gym for their strength training?  I have looked at them for over 2 years and don't bit the bullet because of the price..but QVC has one for 300$ with all good reviews...just wondered.  I have a pilates machine and I don't use it....just can't get into it.

Thank you.

I have never used one, but I have heard good things as well and that this is actually a good product.  I guess it's very sturdy.

In physical therapy I used one.  The tendon of my foot was damaged  so they used that to allow me to exercise without my foot having to support my body weight.   Other than that, calf raises and squats on it, I don't have any experiance.

It seems to take quite a bit of space.  Would it be a good use of your available workout space?

Thank you both for commenting.   It can fold up into an ironing board size if you need it to.  I would keep it out though in the basement next to the treadmill .  I don't have a lot of space but I would make it work.

Thanks again and anyone else use one please let me know how you like it.

I have one in the barn. I bought it for my husband years ago and he never used it. I did some of my Jari DVDs with it but beyond that I just didn't know what to do with it honestly lol. So it sat in the garage for some years, then storage and now the barn now that we are in the country. Can't bare to part with since I got it on a really good black Friday sale and I always think someday I'll get around to using it. In the distant future. Possibly.

Oh my LNW,  I don't think Christi Brinkley or Chuck Norris would appreciate to hear that the Total Gym is only good enough for the barn.   Maybe you are trying to send a message that their equipment is worth horse sh____.

We have one and I hate it! Even the garbage men wouldn't take it, nor would the thrift stores- they already have too many.
Now it's just sitting in the garage.
If you want to buy one, try the thrift stores- I'll bet you could get one really cheap!

:D  Okay I adore Chuck Norris and I NEVER get tired of Chuck Norris jokes but yeah the total gym stinks.  I'm good with a few different weights of dumbells.

I used to have one as well. Used it for awhile but got bored with it and it was taking up space so I sold it at a garage sale. My DVD's and treadmill are much more "fun". As toning goes, I have gotten better results using dumbbells.

Hi, not sure what they are.  I started working out 30 plus years
ago with a weight bench with a bar and plates as well as
hand weights.  It's old, but it works,  generations of exercisers
have re shaped and strengthened with the traditional moves
using weights.   And,  I set it up along with a large cheap
mirror in the garage,  inexpensive.   All you need, along with
a journal to keep track of reps and sets.  Best, AK

You can do Pilates type exercises on the Total Gym too, can't you?

Well I got some haters here didn't I.  Oh well.  I have one coming.   Have used one at a friends house and we like it.  Just was hoping I had more users here but my fault, I asked :)

    Have a great day!

I think almost any form of movement and weight training
is good for the body.   The secret is finding something you
not only like and stick with, but can do with proper form.
I used to see women in the gym who would use weights
that were very light and then they would swing the weights.
I think that reading about body building and strength training
so that one understands how and why is beneficial,  too.  One
of my neighbors said she bought a Pilates Reformer, which I
would die for, and she has yet to use it!

I have owned a Total Gym for about 10 years.  For several years, I used it religiously and saw great results.  However, I kind of burned out on it and haven't used it much in the past 3 or 4 years.  DVDs are more fun, but I have no plans to get rid of the Total Gym.
