The high step uses a small step top that is the size of a single stack of risers. It is used for leg work mostly, though some instructors use it for short cardio intervals (Cathe does in {High Step Challenge}7475^). The Club Step is a full sized step that allows for more complex cardio and it can also be used as a weight bench.

I have both because I like to stack up my risers pretty high when doing leg workouts, and I also use the Club Step for a weight bench (and for cardio when doing step). If I only had the Club Step, I would need many more sets of risers to make it the height I need for leg work. But, some people think having just the Club Step is enough and that the high step isn't really necessary (and not so great for the knees).

    Ditto w.o.w

I am really glad I have both. But if I could only have one, the club step would be the most versatile.

No, they are not the same. The Club Step is for step choreographed workouts and the High Step is more for weight work and some intervals.  It depends what type of workouts you do. Though I don't use my HS as often as the reg. step, like WOW and Flower Child, I'm also glad I have both.  The HS is great for leg work but I wouldn't recommend it for a cardio step dvd. it would be boring.

The High Step's platform is a small square, measuring about 14" square.  The Club Step's platform is rectangular, measuring about 14" x 40".  The risers used are the same for both.  You use one column with the High Step Platform and use two columns with the Club Step.
