Perhaps you could either cut down the ab work to 2 times per week or just on weight traing days. Do you have any workouts that focus on core training, kickboxing is a good example.
Pilates helps to keep the abdominal muscle more flat, as pilates teaches to train your abs to stay inward rather than outward.

I agree with the others who said to do core work and Pilates and such in addition to regular ab work because that's best for your abs anyway. But, I looked at your photo, and what it looks like to me (and I'm no expert of course) is that the middle portion of your abs is toned, but the obliques are not toned enough in comparison to the rest. I think what's sticking out there is a little bit of untoned area that still needs to be tightened up.

Dawn! You know what helped my obliques? Or should I say "helps" them when I too feel they are bulging out ( however yours look pretty darn good!) Is kickboxing- and at night usually 3 times a week, at night as I am watching tv I will stand up and do 100 fire kicks on each side, this helps my obliques a ton! A fire kick is like a rapid kick to the side keeping your leg up to hip level. In Tae Bo I believe he calls them machine gun kicks. Cathe calls them rapid fire kicks.
Anyways, kickboxing is great for the obliques when you are doing side kicks or roundhouse kicks and even back kicks.

Also you have kiddos? I have 3 kids and yeah my abs will never be the same ( that loose skin!) however my abs are a lot stronger and more defined, but I have those dreadful stretch marks so NOBODY is seeing my belly! lol

I think your abs look great!  My abs are my best feature and I'm proud of mine too.  If it's your hipbones sticking out (I have that too) if will feel like a bone under the skin - you can feel it where it is sticking out.  Do you feel that?  You can't do much to change your bone structure.  You shouldn't worry at all about it - you look great.  Just keep doing what you are doing.  :)

I dont know about doing more oblique work,I think I do enough already doing tamilee webb I want those abs the 2nd part is oblique work, I can try doing more pilates and core work, when I do a side bend it looks like muscle or bone sticking out with a bit of skin on top,I dont know how to describe it,The other  exercise site had told me less work on the obliques cause they are building out. It feels like hard bone I think Andelyn you are right that this is my hipbone, I did have low rise jeans on when I took the pic.  I know the skin gets lose from having 2 kids so that could be also.  Andelyn the way you describe yours sounds the same like me. my sister said the same,I worry way too much how I look sorry girls!!!

Hi girls I decided I will keep trying and also add some weight when I do ab exercises. with added weight this may help me give me better definintion. I know there not much I can do if its a bit lose skin. And i would never get a tummy tuck,I rather do it through exercise and diet!!  Ill keep you posted and let you know how the results go. I will  show you before and after pics if I see any change. Thanks girls for putting up with me!!!

    Hey Dawn,

I don't know if you do planks but you might want to add in some plank work as it works the entire core - front and back.

Also, doing old-school full sit-ups with heavy weight has done wonders for my abs and core strength.  I do them with a 30 or 35lb kettlebell.

    Good Luck!

When doing the sit ups with weight I usually hold it in front of me rather than resting it on my chest.  With a kettlebell you can hold it by the horns (handle) and it works fine.  You can probably use a dumbbell and hold it with your hands around the sides, although you might have trouble with heavier weights.   And for reverse crunches you can use a med ball between your legs.  I think I saw that on a Cathe workout.

I'd like it think I'm in good shape for my age.  I'm 47 but I just have to workout harder than some of you younger folks.   I'm pretty pleased with how I look except for my legs.  I'll see if I can find a pic of myself.  Can we post them on our profiles?  I'll have to check that out.

    Thanks!
